The Pilot Grove Lady Tigers softball team proved that you can exceed on the field as well as in the classroom.
While finishing second in the state in Class 1 during the 2017 season, the Lady Tigers also placed five players on the academic all-state team, which requires a 3.8 GPA and either a 24 or higher on the ACT or top 15 percent of the class.
Heading the list on the academic all-state team for Pilot Grove were Kaitlen Weekley, Reagan Walker, Emily Schupp, Samarah Bailey and Reagan McFatrich.
Of course the Lady Tigers weren’t the only team in the area with players selected to the academic all-state team.
Boonville also had seven players receive recognition. They were: Camryn Monteer, Leigha Vollmer, Josie Robb, Jamie Lemmons, Hailey Polk, Zoe Coffelt and Morgan Massa.
The Lady Pirates also finished with a team GPA of 3.35 on a 4.0 scale.
The New Franklin Lady Bulldogs softball team, meanwhile, had four players selected academic all-state. They were: Shelby Breshears, Grace Hundley, Madison Matney and Kacie White.
The Lady Bulldogs also finished near the top in the team standings for academic all-state with a team GPA of 3.70.
Jefferson had the highest GPA for teams in Class 1 at 3.90. Fatima turned in the highest GPA for Class 2 at 3.870 while Helias had the best GPA in Class 3 at 3.90 and Winnetonka at 4.00 in Class 4.
Also in Class 3, Salem finished second at 3.839, followed by Cassville at 3.820, Bolivar at 3.776, Warrensburg at 3.750, Southern Boone at 3.747, St. Francis Borgia at 3.733, Kirksville at 3.723, Christian, Hillsboro and Monett each at 3.670.
