With nine wrestlers in the finals, it came as no surprise that Whitfield was going to run away with the title in Class 1 over the weekend during the Missouri State High School Wrestling Championships at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
While finishing with a team score of 240, Whitfield out-distanced second place finisher Seneca by a whopping 116 points. Marceline finished third overall with 105.5 points while Lathrop took fourth with 97.5 points.
In Class 2, the Mexico Bulldogs captured the state title with 122 points. Monett finished a close second with 115.5 points, followed by Logan-Rogersville with 100.5 and Ste. Genevieve with 99.
Four other teams from the North Central Missouri Conference also fared well in Class 2. Fulton finished eighth overall with 69 points while Moberly placed 10th with 61, Boonville 14th with 48 and Kirksville 16th with 39 points.
In Class 3, Kearney edged Neosho for the title 161-158.5.
Platte County finished third with 110.5 points while Smithville placed fourth with 102 points.
Also in Class 3, Hannibal finished 29th overall with 17 points while Marshall came in in 33rd place with 13.5 points.
In Class 4, CBC won the title with 155.5 points. Park Hill finished second at 142, followed by Staley 118 and Seckman 103.5
