New Franklin boys play tonight against Westran

New Franklin Lady Bulldogs basketball coach Morgan Vetter had one word to describe Monday night’s game against Paris in the opening round of the Sturgeon Tournament: ugly.
In a No. 2 versus No. 7 matchup, the Lady Coyotes led New Franklin from start to finish while taking a 28-13 lead into the half and 50-18 after three quarters of play. Paris also held a 11-3 advantage in the fourth for a convincing 61-21 victory.
Although injuries have plagued New Franklin all season, Vetter said the girls still had some good looks and good takes against Paris. “We just couldn’t get in a groove offensively or defensively,” Vetter said. “Paris is a talented squad. We’ll look to battle New Bloomfield on Wednesday.”
In other games on Monday, No. 1 South Callaway defeated No. 8 Westran 66-25 while No. 4 Sturgeon upended No. 5 Salisbury 35-30. No. 6 Community also knocked off No. 3 New Bloomfield 56-48.
Tournament action will continue on the boys side of the bracket tonight, with No. 1 New Bloomfield playing Paris at 6 p.m. and Salisbury battling South Callaway at 6. At 7:30, Sturgeon will play Community and New Franklin will square off against Westran.
Allison Moore had 20 points to lead all scorers for Paris.
For New Franklin, who dropped to 4-12 on the season, Lauren Evans had nine, Lilly Oser six, Madison Matney four and Madelyn Chaney with two.
