The LSE girls seventh and eighth grade basketball teams fell at home Monday night against the Versailles Tigers by losing by the scores of 25-6 and 29-23, respectively.
The Lady Pirates seventh grade basketball team, 0-7 on the season, trailed Versailles 10-2 at the half and 19-6 after three quarters of play. Meanwhile, in the fourth, Versailles outscored LSE 6-0.
LSE seventh grade coach Susie Stone said as a team the girls rebounded better tonight overall than they have in previous games, especially in the first half. “The second half Versailles took advantage of some offensive boards that hurt,” Stone said. “The first half we were able to hold Versailles’ inside game to a minimum with some defensive adjustments but the second half after making a quick offensive run and cutting their lead we allowed two quick offensive back to back scores by Versailles and then we were never able to score again the rest of the game. For the first two minutes of the second half we moved the ball well, made the easy baskets and played strong defensive with no breakdowns. Kacie Northern did a great job as a sparkplug coming off the bench and clearing the boards and being aggressive on defense tonight.”
Tany Morris paced all scorers in the game for Versailles with eight points.
For LSE, Kenley Fox had four points, two rebounds and one steal. Molly Schuster finished the game with two points, three rebounds and one steal while Carlie Bishop added four rebounds, three steals and one assist, Heather Hall and Kasie Northern each with four rebounds, Natalie Page three rebounds and one steal, Addy Ward three rebounds, Hailee Williams one rebound and one steal and Anastasia Butler with one rebound.
As for the Lady Pirates eighth grade team, they trailed Versailles 14-8 at the half and 26-10 after three quarters of play before rallying back with a 13-3 advantage in the fourth.
Faith Mesik, Kyleigh Thacker and Grace Dennis each had six points in the game for LSE. Thacker also finished the game with 15 rebounds and two steals while Dennis had three rebounds and one steal and Mesik with two steals and one rebound. Madison Henderson finished the game with three points and two rebounds while Nora Morris added two points, two rebounds, one steal and one assist.
Versailles was led by Kate Jackson with 13 points.
