The Boonville Pirates soccer team had the perfect ending to the regular season Thursday night on the road against the Mexico Bulldogs.
With the districts set to start next week in Pleasant Hill, the Pirates may have stolen a win on the road Thursday night by beating the Bulldogs by a score of 2-1 in overtime.
While finishing the regular season at 10-9 overall, the Pirates also closed out their final season in the NCMC at 8-4. Boonville will be joining the Tri-County Conference in 2018.
Boonville Pirates soccer coach Kaz James said the boys played a great game after being down 1-0 and winning in overtime. “The boys played with a lot of heart and stuck together as a team,” James said. “I thought this was one of their better games this season because how they moved the ball and stayed calm under pressure when they were down 1-0. We will start preparing for next Tuesday as we will face Oak Grove in the first round of districts.”
With the score tied at 0-0 in the first half, Mexico came out in the second half and took the lead at 1-0 with a goal at the 65 minute mark. However at the 73 minute mark, Boonville answered with a goal by senior Skyler Blumhorst and assist by Luke Rehagen to tie the match at 1-all.
