Improve to 15-7 overall and 5-0 in the CAC
The Pilot Grove Lady Tigers softball team moved one step closer to the championship in the Central Activities Conference after beating the Madison Panthers Friday night in Pilot Grove by a score of 10-1.
The Lady Tigers, 15-7 overall and 5-0 in the conference, opened the game against Madison with one run in the first and then sent two runs across in the second, one again in the third, three in the fourth and three again in the sixth. As for Madison, they scored their only run of the ballgame in the top-half of the sixth.
Pilot Grove coach Neal Bailey said the girls hit the ball well and had another good defensive outing. “All the girls played well and equally contributed to the win by doing their part,” Bailey said.
Junior pitcher Samarah Bailey picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Tigers, improving her season record to 13-3. In seven innings, Bailey struck out 20 batters and gave up just one run on four hits and one walk. Thomas took the loss for Madison.
Pilot Grove also out-hit Madison 10-4, with Melanie Wolfe going 3-for-3 with a single, double, home run and four RBIs. Reagan Walker also had three hits with two singles, one double and one RBI while Natalie Rentel added two singles and one RBI, Emily Schupp and Reagan McFatrich each with one single and Bailey with one RBI.
For Madison, Morris had two hits.
Pilot Grove drew the No. 1 seed for the Class 1 District 6 Tournament in Fayette. The Lady Tigers will play New Franklin in the opening round on Wednesday starting at 7 p.m. No. 2 Fayette will take on No. 3 Leeton at 5 p.m.
