Lady Pirates improve to 7-1 on the season with their sixth shutout of the
The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team had another big night on Tuesday while hosting Father Tolton in a battle in a battle of state ranked teams from the 2016 season.
While the Lady Pirates are currently ranked seventh in Class 2, Father Tolton is also drawing attention from coaches across the state by picking up votes.
As it turned out, the Blazers proved to be no match at all as Boonville recorded its sixth shutout of the season and fourth in a row by beating Father Tolton 9-0.
While the win improved Boonville’s record to 7-1 overall, head coach Tim Brown said the match was pretty tight early both.
“Both teams were trading a lot of possessions in the midfield, and neither team could find a breakthrough,” Brown said. “However, once we put in a goal and picked up the pace, we were all over the Trailblazers penalty area for most of the match. Senior forward Hannah Fuemmeler scored two, junior forward Brynn Edwards got three, and sophomore midfielder Sariana Barbarotta put in four fabulous goals, netting her first varsity hat trick.”
It was definitely the Barbarotta, Edwards and Fuemmeler show Tuesday night against Father Tolton, as the trio combined for all nine goals for Boonville.
Of course this match was never in doubt as Boonville scored five goals alone in the first half: three by Edwards and one each from Fuemmeler and Barbarotta.
However it was Fuemmeler that got the Lady Pirates on the board first with a goal at the 7 minute mark on the assist from Edwards (5th) to make it 1-0.
Boonville never trailed after that while scoring 11 minutes later at the 18 minute mark on the goal from Edwards and assist from Peterson (6th).
Barbarotta then picked up the first of four goals on the night at the 22 minute mark on an assist from Edwards (6th) to extend the lead to 3-0. Edwards followed suit with her second goal at the 29 minute mark on an assist from Blake Allison (4th) to make it 4-0. Then, for the final goal of the half, Edwards found the back of the net from 10 yards out on an assist from Leigha Vollmer (2nd) to push the lead to 5-0 at the break.
The Lady Pirates continued to score at will in the second half, punching it in at the 43 minute mark on a goal from Fuemmeler (13th) and assist from Edwards (7th) to make it 6-0. One minute later at the 44 minute mark, Barbarotta picked up goal No. 2 on the assist by Brooke Coleman to extend the lead to 7-0.
Barbarotta would score two more times in the match, the third goal coming at the 49 minute mark on an assist from Fuemmeler (12th) to go up 8-0. Then, for the final goal in the match, Barbarotta picked up goal No. 9 for the season on the assist from Olivia Browning to make it 9-0.
Boonville also finished the match with 33 shot attempts and 18 shots on goal while Father Tolton had two shot attempts and two shots on goal.
Junior goalie Jamie Lemmons, meanwhile, finished the game with two saves which puts her at 19 for the season.
In the junior varsity game, Father Tolton defeated Boonville 2-1.
The Lady Pirates, dropping to 3-4 on the season, scored their only goal of the match at the 33 minute mark on a shot by Mille Dorman and assist from Jaden McKee. Father Tolton’s two goals came at the 20 and 24 minute mark.
Brown said the JV Lady Pirates in a bit of a slump. He said they just cannot seem to get those timely goals, and defensively they are maybe not yet experienced enough to keep from occasionally shooting themselves in the foot.
Boonville’s JV finished the match with five shot attempts and two shots on goal while Father Tolton had four shot attempts and three shots on goal.
Freshman goalie Sarah Miller, meanwhile, finished the match with one save.
