The New Bloomfield Wildcats baseball team broke a 1-1 tie after two innings by reeling off 10 unanswered runs to beat Pilot Grove 11-1 in five innings Thursday night in New Bloomfield.
The Tigers, dropping to 1-2 on the season, scored its only run in the top-half of the first. However it was pretty much all New Bloomfield after that with one in the bottom-half of the first, three again in the third and seven in the fourth.
“We were not very good at all tonight,” said Pilot Grove coach Dillon Yung. “We started the first inning out with a two out RBI single from Cole Meisenheimer but only had one hit the rest of the game.  Errors were the story of this game for us defensively. We gave them way to many outs tonight and they did a nice job of taking advantage of every mistake we made. Anytime you have more errors than hits it leads to a bad night all around.  We need to regroup and refocus the next couple of days and get ready to go on Monday night on the road at Cairo.”
Tyler Martin picked up the win on the mound for New Bloomfield while Cole Meisenheimer took the loss for Pilot Grove. Martin pitched all five innings and struck out 10 batters while giving up one run on two hits.
For Pilot Grove, Meisenheimer pitched 4 2/3 innings and gave up 10 runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out four. Austin Hammond then came in and pitched 1/3 inning in relief and allowed one run on three walks.
New Bloomfield also out-hit Pilot Grove 7-2, with Martin going 2-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs. Zack Burton also doubled and drove in one run.
For Pilot Grove, Steven Bell went 1-for-2 with a double while Meisenheimer singled and drove in one run.
