The Ss. Peter & Paul girls sixth grade basketball team fell short against Glasgow in the annual New Franklin 5th-6th Grade Basketball Tournament on Friday by a score of 20-18.
The Lady Warriors, who dropped to 5-8 on the season, trailed Glasgow from the first quarter on as the Yellowjackets led 7-2 in the opening stanza. Meanwhile, in the second quarter, Ss. Peter & Paul rallied back with a 8-5 advantage to cut the lead to two at 12-10. But even that was short-lived as Glasgow held a 5-4 scoring edge in the third to extend the lead to three at 17-14. However, in the final period, Ss. Peter & Paul closed the gap by holding the Yellowjackets to three points while scoring four points to make it a two-point ballgame.
Ss. Peter & Paul coach Danny Fuemmeler said the girls played a very good game but just couldn’t get the ball to fall.
“We had a lot of good looks and played a great defensive game,” Fuemmeler said. “It was unfortunate we couldn’t end the season with a win but I couldn’t be prouder the effort all these young ladies put forth.”
Zoey Lang and Abby Fuemmeler tied for the team high for Ss. Peter & Paul with eight points.
Lang also finished the game with 11 rebounds and three assists while Fuemmeler had four rebounds, one steal and one assist.
Leah Ziegelbein chipped in two points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist while Alison Eichelberger added five steals, Allison Drummond with three rebounds and one steal, Addy Nichols with four rebounds, Grace Williams with two rebounds and two steals and Bridget Lutz with two rebounds.
