The Boonville Pirates wrestling team picked up some good news in the rankings.
Although the Pirates were not in the top 10 teamwise in Class 2, they did have two wrestlers currently ranked in the top five in their respective weight classes.
According to the rankings from December 12th, Boonville sophomore Charlie Pumel was ranked fourth in the 152-pound weight class while senior Joel Concannon was also fourth in the 182-pound weight class.
Pumel, 14-0 on the season, finished first in the Steve Leslie Invitational and is currently 2-0 in the NCMC after matches against Fulton and Hannibal.
As for Concannon, the senior grappler is also undefeated on the season at 13-0 with a first place finish as well in the Steve Leslie Invitational in Pleasant Hill and a 2-0 mark in the NCMC.
In team rankings in Class 2, Oak Grove is the No. 1 team in the state. Mexico, a NCMC school, is No. 2, followed by Savannah in the third spot, St. Joseph Benton, Fulton, Pleasant Hill, Odessa, Chillicothe, Monett and Cameron.
In Class 1 team rankings, Whitfield is the No. 1 team in the state currently. Marceline is No. 2, followed by Seneca, Centralia, Buffalo, Lawson, Richmond, Lexington, Father Tolton and Brookfield.
The North Central Missouri Conference currently has 15 wrestlers ranked in the top five in Class 2 in 14 weight divisions.
As for the Boonville Pirates wrestling team, they have three wrestlers currently undefeated with Pumel and Gabe Rumbaoa each at 14-0 at 152 and 220, respectively, and Concannon at 13-0 at 182.
Keandre Anderson is currently 11-3 in the 285-pound weight class while Lucas Gerke is 9-5 in the 195-pound weight class, Heath Danner 2-2 at 113, Gavin Vollmer 4-9 at 145 and Josh Polk 1-5 at 138.
The Boonville Pirates wrestling team, 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the NCMC, will host the Marshall Owls in its first match for the 2017 season on Thursday, Jan. 5th at the Windsor gymnasium starting at 6 p.m. Then, on Saturday, Jan. 7th, the Pirates will compete in the Marshall Tournament.
Note: The Boonville Pirates wrestling team will compete in the Class 2 District 3 Tournament at Clinton High School on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11.
Teams competing along with Boonville are: Bolivar, Cassville, Clinton, Eldon, Hollister, Logan-Rogersville, Monett, Nevada, Odessa, Osage, Pleasant Hill, Reeds Spring, Southern Boone and Springfield Catholic.
