The LSE boys seventh and eighth grade basketball teams took care of its home floor Thursday night against the Fulton Hornets in NCMC action at Boonville.
While the seventh grade team beat Fulton 52-34 to improve to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the conference, the eighth grade team also led the Hornets from start to finish for a 28-16 victory.
The Pirates seventh grade team also five players in the scoring column against Fulton.
Treveon Coleman led all scorers with 24 points, seven rebounds and three steals while DaWan Lomax added 14 points, two rebounds and two steals, DJ Wesolak eight points, 13 rebounds and two steals, Jamesian McKee four points, seven rebounds and two steals, Lane Keeran two points and one rebound and Chandler Stonecipher with one rebound and one steal.
LSE led Fulton 20-17 at the half and then outscored the Hornets 32-14 in the second half.
LSE coach Rob VanderLinden said the first half was a battle of two really good teams.
“Fulton was the first team to play a full court defense against us,” VanderLinden said. “The kids handled the pressure good, only turning the ball over once against them, but it made us rush on the offensive end. We came out of halftime a little calmer on offense and more aggressive on defense and really pulled away from Fulton. We also achieved one of our goals of winning every quarter.  We have one more game on the schedule, Monday night in Fayette. We also played a B game after and it ended in a 8-8 tie. Daylan Shelton scored six of the points and Cameron Ridgeway scored two.”
As for the LSE boys eighth grade basketball team, they led Fulton 13-8 at the break and then outscored the Hornets 15-8 in the second half.
LSE coach Joe Henke said this was a big game for the Pirates because Fulton had beaten them earlier in the season by 28 points and the boys used that as motivation to play with a lot of effort and it showed on the defensive end.  “Kayle Rice, Saylor Marquez and Cody Garner did a great job rebounding tonight,” Henke said. “I am proud of the boys.  We played more as a team and even though we missed a lot of shots, we continued to play hard on the defensive end.   Our last game of the season is on Monday at Fayette.”
Cody Garner had 17 points and seven rebounds for LSE, who improved to 7-6 on the season. Saylor Marquez chipped in seven points while grabbing nine rebounds while Tyson Franklin added two points, Tyree Walters and Axton Nease each with one point and Kayle Rice with 13 rebounds.
