The annual Turkey Trot 5K run, which is held every Thanksgiving Day,  is not only a tradition at Boonville but also across the United States.
Although some may be bigger than others, the Turkey Trot 5K run is no small potatoes in Boonville. According to race director Vanessa Dorman, the Turkey Trot 5K run/walk drew 155 participants with over 122 finishers.
“The Turkey Trot is now the most popular day to run a 5K in the USA,” Dorman said. “We are proud to continue to bring the event to the Boonslick Area and ours is one of the most family friendly and affordable ones around. It is a great thing for families to do together each year. Actual participants this year ranged in ages 7-65 but we had several families pushing baby strollers and even a few dogs. Endorphins from a brisk walk or run work well to get everyone in to holiday spirit.”
Dorman said 5K run/walk drew participants from Columbia, New Franklin, Pilot Grove, Harrisburg, Fulton, Kansas City, Wisconsin, Alexandria, Virginia and Coronado, California.
In its eighth year of existence, Dorman said former Boonville graduate Greg Linhart was the overall male winner of the 5K in a time of 19 minutes and 37 seconds while Jenni Hackman, who also graduated from Boonville, was the overall female winner in 26 minutes and 18 seconds.
