The Ss. Peter & Paul girls seventh grade basketball team won its opening game in the St. Pius Tournament Tuesday night in Moberly by beating St. Joseph of Salisbury 46-8.
The Lady Warriors, 7-0 on the season, outscored St. Joseph of Salisbury 34-0 in the first-two periods and then held a 12-10 scoring edge in the second half.
Ss. Peter & Paul coach Carol Griffin said the girls opened the tournament with aggressive play and continued throughout the game. “This is a great bunch of girls who work hard to improve each game,” Griffin said.
Addison Brownfield had the game-high for Ss. Peter & Paul with 14 points and six steals while dishing out two assists.
Olivia Eichelberger finished the game with eight points, two steals, two assists and one rebound while Taylor Frederick added eight points, two assists and one rebound, Emma West with six points, four rebounds and one steal, Brooke Eichelberger four points, four rebounds, three steals and one assist, Lillian Rohrbach four points, two steals and one rebound, Hailey James two points and three rebounds and Maggie McGuire with four rebounds and two steals.
Ss. Peter & Paul also hit on 6 of 7 shots from the foul line for 86 percent.
