The Boonville Lady Pirates volleyball team hit yet another skid in the way of the Marshall Owls Thursday night on the road in NCMC action.
After battling back to tie the match at 1-all, the Lady Pirates just couldn’t seem to get over the hump in the third set while falling by a score of 25-19.
Marshall won the first set 25-20 while Boonville took the second 25-23.
While the loss dropped Boonville to 3-7-2 overall and 2-2 in the NCMC, head coach Morgan Sprigg said she thought the girls came out ready to play against Marshall.
“The girls have to realize that it takes a whole team to win a game,” Sprigg said. “They have been struggling this week on communication and teamwork. They have to be able to drop everything and just play the game. They have so much potential, they just have to be confident in one another and work to achieve their goals. I know the girls are tired of losing and so am I. Marshall was a decent team, but beatable. We did not have a good week, but we have to regroup as a team and get some wins. We have learned from these games and we have to work on the things we are having trouble with, especially our attitudes towards one another. We have a big week coming up and we will be ready to go on Monday against Mexico.”
Shayann Potter led the Lady Pirates with 22 assists along with three service points, two digs and one kill on eight attack attempts.
Dana Lester finished the match with 13 service points with six aces along with eight digs and four kills on 13 attack attempts. Sara Clinton had 17 digs and four service points along with seven attack attempts while Lindsey Harris added seven service points with four aces, five kills on 10 attack attempts and one dig, Brynn Edwards with eight kills on 24 attack attempts with three service points, one block and one dig, Hannah Gross with four kills on 11 attack attempts with three service points with one ace and two digs, MJ Goff with four digs and one kill on two attack attempts, Lawren Luscombe with four kills on 17 attack attempts with one block, Kyleigh Skoufos with four digs and two attack attempts and Brianna Walker with three digs.
In the JV match, Marshall defeated Boonville in three sets 27-25, 13-25 and 9-15.
Boonville JV coach Alex Wendell said again she saw some good things but the girls just couldn’t carry them through to win the entire match.
Eliza Adams led the Lady Pirates with 11 digs while Rachel Lutz had five kills on 12 attack attempts with eight service points with one ace. Carson Dee finished the match with a team-leading five assists.
