Harris leads New Franklin baseball team past Glasgow, 13-3
The New Franklin Lady Bulldogs softball team picked up win No. 8 Tuesday night by beating the Glasgow Lady Yellowjackets in New Franklin by a score of 16-1.
The Lady Bulldogs, 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the CAC, had their hands full for an inning and a half while playing Glasgow to a 1-1 tie. The flood gates then opened after that as New Franklin exploded for eight runs in the second, six again in the third and one in the fourth to win by the mercy rule.
New Franklin coach Ross Dowell said the girls hit the ball extremely well. “We had a lot of extra base hits,” Dowell said. “We still need to work on baserunning and clean up some defensive situations.”
Senior Cassie Armentrout also kept her record perfect for the season in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs. While improving to 8-0 on the season, Armentrout gave up just one run on five hits and two walks while striking out one batter in four innings.
Armentrout also had three hits in the game to lead New Frankilin with one single, two doubles and two RBIs. Madison Matney was 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI while Lauren Evans added a single, double and two RBIs, Grace Hundley with a single, double and one RBI, Jasmine Himmelberg with a triple and one RBI, Sydney Dowell with one double and one RBI, Kacie White with one single and two RBIs and Madison Maupin and Shelby Breshears each with one single and one RBI.
New Franklin BB 13
The New Franklin baseball team broke a 1-1 tie after 3 1/2 by outscoring Glasgow 12-2 for the rest of the game for a 13-3 win Tuesday night in CAC action at New Franklin.
The Bulldogs, improving to 4-4 overall and 1-0 in the conference, put up four runs in the fourth and then sent one run across in the fifth and seven in the sixth for the victory.
New Franklin coach Erich Gerding said another grind. “Gavin Bishop gave us a good effort and Kale Harris did a good job,” Gerding said. “I would have liked to see us swing it a bit better from the get go and execute better, but it was good to get our first conference win and at home.”
Bishop pitched 4 1/3 innings for the win for New Franklin and struck out nine batters while giving up three runs on six hits and two walks. Harris then came in and pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief and allowed one hit and two walks while striking out four.
New Franklin also out-hit Glasgow 8-7, with Kale Harris going 3-for-5 with two singles, one double and three RBIs. Mason Bailey was 2-for-3 with a single, double and two RBIs. Bishop also doubled and drove in one run while Hunter Rohlfing added a single and two RBIs, Caleb Phillips with one single and Carter Bailey with two RBIs.
