The Bunceton Dragons baseball team dropped its home opener Tuesday against the St. Elizabeth Wildcats by a score of 10-0.
The Dragons, 0-2 on the season, battled St. Elizabeth to a scoreless tie after two innings but then surrendered four runs in the third, two in the fourth and four in the sixth to suffer the loss.
Alex Goeller picked up the win on the mound for St. Elizabeth while Rylee Knapheide took the loss for Bunceton. Goeller pitched five innings and gave up two hits and two walks while striking out three. Knapheide, meanwhile, pitched five innings as well and allowed six runs on four hits and five walks. Blake Petsel then came in and pitched one inning in relief and yielded four runs on three hits and one walk.
St. Elizabeth also out-hit Bunceton 7-2, with Zach Voss going 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBIs. Nolan Holtmeyer was 2-for-2 with two singles and one RBI while Dakota Kemna doubled and drove in one run.
For Bunceton, Blake Petsel and Austin Anderson each singled.
