New Franklin senior Cassie Armentrout did it with both her arm and bat Thursday night in a 11-1 win over Slater.
While holding Slater to just one run on four hits and three walks in five walks, Armentrout also finished the night 2-for-2 at the plate with two singles and three RBIs.
Of course it didn’t hurt that New Franklin scored the game’s first eight runs in the first-four innings by pushing across three in the first, four in the third and one in the fourth to go up 8-0. The Lady Bulldogs also plated three runs in the fifth to win by the mercy rule. Slater, meanwhile, scored its only run of the ballgame in the top-half of the fifth.
New Franklin coach Ross Dowell said it was good to get their first conference win. “I thought the girls made some good adjustments,” Dowell said.
Lauren Evans also had two hits in the game for New Franklin with two singles and two RBIs. Madison Matney homered and drove in one run while Kacie White added one double, Grace Hundley with one single and two RBIs, Madison Maupin, Kaitlyn Utterback and Jasmine Himmelberg each with one single and one RBI and Sydney Dowell with one single.
New Franklin also won the JV game against Slater 5-0.
Lindsey Brown picked up the win in the circle for the Lady Bulldogs.
Shelby Breshears went 3-for-3 in the game for New Franklin with two RBIs while Sydney Dowell, Lindsey Brown and Lauren Evans each had one hit.
