Cooper County Land Title improved to 7-2 on the season by turning back Higbee 13-3 in Babe Ruth 16U softball Friday night at Rolling Hills park.
CCL led Higbee from the start with four runs in the first and nine again in the second to extend the lead to 13-0. Meanwhile, in the top-half of the third, Higbee rallied back with three runs to avoid the shutout.
Autumn Fuemmeler picked up the win in the circle for CCLT while Casey Hudson took the loss for Higbee, who dropped to 0-9 on the season. Fuemmeler pitched the first-two innings and struck out four batters while giving up just one hit. Taylor Simmons then came in and pitched one inning in relief and allowed three runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one batter.
For Higbee, Hudson pitched 1 1/3 innings and surrendered eight runs on three hits and six walks while striking out one. Alexis Whisenand then came in and pitched 1/3 inning and issued five runs on five walks. Then, to finish the game, Allie Derboven pitched 1/3 inning and yielded no hits, no runs and no walks.
Kyra Perkins and Madison Watson each had a double and one RBI in the game for CCLT while Zoey Laster added one single and one RBI.
For Higbee, Destiny Switzer went 2-for-2 with two singles while Hope Smith had one single.
In the nightcap, Monteer Plants & Baskets won its third straight game by receiving a forfeit against the Boonville Daily News. Monteer Plants & Baskets improved to 3-7 on the season while the Boonville Daily News fell to 7-3.
