After putting up 39 runs Monday night on the road against Prairie Home, the New Franklin Bulldogs baseball team knew Tuesday’s game against Sturgeon would be a little different.
As it turned out the only difference was in the run total as New Franklin still beat the Bulldogs by a score of 10-0.
While improving to 9-0 on the season, head coach Erich Gerding said Zach (Evans) gave the Bulldogs a great effort on the bump again.
“Zach had a lot of strikes,” Gerding said. “He had a perfect game going until he hit a batter in the fifth. The middle of our order really carried the day offensively and put several good swings on the ball. However, it’s time to get back to work to keep getting better.”
Of course it’s hard to find fault with Evans’ performance after striking out eight batters and giving up only one hit through six innings of play.
The Bulldogs also opened the game with two runs in the first and then sent two runs across in the third, two again in the fifth and four in the sixth.
As for the hitting in the game for New Franklin, Jerrod Riley continues to swing a hot bat while going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one home run and four RBIs.
Kaleb Anderton was 2-for-3 with a single, home run and two RBIs while Blake Carleton added two singles, Hunter Rohlfing with one single and one RBI and Zach Evans with one single.
Brandon Hatfield took the loss on the hill for Sturgeon.
In the JV game, New Franklin and Sturgeon played to a 4-4 tie through three innings.
Mason Bailey pitched all three innings for the Bulldogs and gave up four runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three. Bailey also went 1-for-2 in the game with a single and one RBI.
Sturgeon out-hit New Franklin 4-1 in the game.
