After a heartbreaking loss the week before against Northwest of Hughesville by a score of 6-5, the Bunceton Dragons baseball team finally caught a break Tuesday night at home against the Higbee Tigers by leading from start to finish for a 5-2 victory.
Bunceton, improving to 1-1 on the season, opened the game with one run in the first and then sent one run across again in the bottom-half of the fourth. Meanwhile, after Higbee rallied back with one run in the top-half of the fifth, Bunceton came back and tacked on two more runs in its half of the inning to go up 4-1. Then, in the sixth, Higbee added another run to cut the lead in half while Bunceton plated one run in the bottom-half of the inning for the victory.
Rylee Knapheide picked up the win on the mound for Bunceton, 1-1 on the season, while Noah Kirby took the loss for Higbee. Knapheide pitched the first-five innings and gave up one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five. Riley Layne then came in and pitched two innings in relief and allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out two.
For Higbee, Kirby pitched the first-five innings and surrendered four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two.
Bunceton also out-hit Higbee 7-3, with Blake Petsel going 3-for-4 with three singles and one RBI.
Jordan Angermeyer and Dylon Custer each had one double and one RBI while Eli Pearcy added one single and one RBI and Brandon Doyle with one single.
For Higbee, Jason Hudson went 2-for-3 with two singles and one RBI. Dakota Wheeler also singled while James Gibson drove in one run.
