Valentine’s Day was about more than sweet treats and heart-shaped cards this year at Ashley Manor Care Center. The center raised $842 for the Harvest House homeless shelter through its Valentine’s Day King and Queen contest.

The residents and staff members crowned King Larry Brown, of Hillsboro, Illinois, and Queen Patsy Roach, of Marshall, as Ashley Manor’s Valentines Day royalty of 2020. The crowning ceremony took place during a holiday party Feb. 14 at the center on 1630 Radio Hill Road in Boonville.

Voting began in January. Each resident was allowed one free vote per week of the contest, and additional votes could be purchased for 25 cents a piece by residents, family members and friends.

Activities Director Mary Lea Reuter said the residents enjoyed the celebration and polished off all of the refreshments.
