Two Columbia women were seriously injured early Sunday when their car collided head-on with a truck near the Midway exit on Interstate 70.

Sara McCahon, 27, was driving a 2010 Toyota Prius with Elizabeth McCarthy as a passenger when just before 1 a.m. she drove to the bottom of the eastbound entrance ramp leading from Highway 40 onto the interstate, the Missouri State Highway Patrol stated in an online crash report. McCahon stopped, then turned west into oncoming traffic, the report stated.

Her car was struck by a Volvo tractor-trailer driven by Howard Salickram, 68, of Orlando, Florida.

McCahon and McCarthy were taken to University of Missouri Hospital for treatment. Salickram was uninjured.
