A repair shop in Columbia found child pornography while working on a man’s desktop computer, according to documents filed in Boone County Circuit Court.

Columbia police arrested Michael D. Bishop, 53, Friday on suspicion of possession of child pornography and he was charged Saturday.

Officers learned of the material, more than 20 photographs of children who appear to be under 18, on Jan. 4 when the repair shop on Lakeview Drive called to report that its technician found it while copying the hard drive of Bishop's computer, David Nicolaescu of the Columbia Police Department wrote in a probable cause statement filed with the charges.

The photographs included some children believed to be as young as 3.

When he was questioned by Nicolaescu, Bishop admitted he had owned the computer for five years and knew about the images.

Bishop was being held Tuesday afternoon in the Boone County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond. It’s not clear if he has an attorney to speak on his behalf.
