Prairie Home United Methodist Church installed their 2020 officers on Sunday, Jan. 5. They are: Chair of Faithbuilders – Cindy Lenger; Secretary of Faithbuilders – Ashlee Gann. Treasurer – Brenda Sells; Coordinator of the Prayer Chain – Kay Sells; Pastor Parish Relations Committee – Nicole Coonce (Jamestown Grace UMC), Chair, Kay Sells, Cecilia Johnson, Ashley Smith, Amy Odneal (ex officio – lay leader), Nancy Kixmiller (Lay Member to Annual Conference); Board of Trustees – Jerry Oglesbay (chair), Nancy Critz, Donnie Sells; Nominations and Leadership Development – Pastor Bruce Jeffries (chair), Glenda Sells, Nancy Kixmiller, Kathy Oglesbay, Amy Odneal (ex officio – lay leader); Finance Committee – Glenda Sells (chair), Amy Odneal (recording secretary).
Following worship on Sunday, the new officers joined with the officers of their sister church in Jamestown, Grace United Methodist Church for lunch in the Fellowship Hall. Those attending the lunch from PHUMC were Amy Odneal, Cindy Lenger, Nancy Kixmiller, Ashley Smith, Donnie and Brenda Sells, Jerry and Kathy Oglesbay, Cecilia Johnson, and Kay Sells. Those attending from Grace UMC were Jeanie Lachner, Mary Wilburs, Lynn Snyder, Mary Jane Snyder and Jennifer Wellman. Pastor Bruce Jeffries serves both churches and hosted the luncheon.
This week marks Prairie Home’s Homecoming. The theme for the week is “The Wizard of Oz”. Each day the students have been encouraged to dress-up. Monday was “No Place Like Home” (Pajama Day); Tuesday was “Twister Tuesday” (Wacky Outfit Day); and Wednesday was “Which Witch is Which” (Twin Day). Thursday will be “Lions, Tigers, and Bears Oh My!” (Dress up as an animal). Friday is the day of Homecoming with “There's a Storm a Coming” (Red and Black Day). Prizes awarded to top students who dress up.
Bunceton/Prairie Home will take on Jamestown for the Prairie Home Homecoming. The game will tipoff at 5 p.m. with the junior varsity boys gamer, followed by the varsity girls. Members of the Prairie Home senior class and their parents will be recognized between the high school girls and boys games around 7 p.m. followed by the varsity boys game. Seniors are: Tyler Angermayer, son of Anthony and Alisha Angerymayer and Katie Monnig; Hannah Duncan, daughter of David and Roxanna Duncan; Austin Hatfield, son of John Hatfield and Lea Ann Bedell; Kassen Lock, son of Ryan and Rachel Lock; Clayton Pethan, son of Kurt and Bethany Pethan; Alex Rhode, son of Ryan and Beth Rhode; Samantha Searles, daughter of Richard Searles and Amanda Robb; Lyric Tracy, daughter of Steve and Danielle Tracy; Gabe Turner, son of Roger and Kimberly Turner; Ashlyn Twenter, daughter of Pat and Holly Twenter; and Mason Wells, son of Ray and Mandy Wells.
Homecoming Royalty will be crowned at the end of the varsity boys game. Homecoming Prince and Princess candidates are: seventh grade - Blayne Williams, son of Keith and Sheila Williams; Matelynn Wells, daughter of Ray and Mandy Wells; eighth grade - Clayton Kendrick, son of Michael and Melissa Kendrick; and Kathryn Crews, daughter of Heather Crews. The 2019 Prince and Princess are Preston Scheidt, son of Earl and Lori Scheidt and Hailey Milne, daughter of Nathan and Lacy McCormack.
Homecoming King and Queen candidates are: freshmen - Tripp Kendrick, son of Marty and Randi Kendrick, and Madison Brown, daughter of Jason and Sheila Brown; sophomores - Logan Fairchild, son of Jacob and Barbie Mankey and Elizabeth Bishop, daughter of Chad and Carie Bishop; juniors - Blane Petsel, son of Randy and Candy Petsel and Isa Walker, daughter of Matthew and Emma Walker; seniors - Tyler Angermayer, son of Anthony and Alisha Angermayer and Katie Monnig, and Ashlyn Twenter, daughter of Pat and Holly Twenter. The 2020 King and Queen will be crowned by the 2019 King and Queen, Clayton Pethan, son of Kurt and Bethany Pethan and Lyrik Tracy, daughter of Steve and Danielle Tracy.
The Homecoming Dance will be 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday for high school students and their dates. Dates who are not from the school will need a date permission form found in the school office. All students who plan to attend need to sign-up for the dance.
The January distribution for The Mustard Seed Food Pantry is from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday. To receive food at no charge, please bring the following: A photo ID, Proof of address (utility bill, telephone bill, etc.). and Social Security cards for each member of the household. The Mustard Seed is located in the basement of Prairie Home United Methodist Church.
