An image mimicking the Gentry Middle School home page but inserting racist words in several places was created by students who have been identified and the image has been removed from the internet, Columbia Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark on Wednesday.
The students responsible have been identified and will receive appropriate punishment, she said.
The image was uploaded Tuesday night and Google removed it quickly after being notified by the school district, Baumstark said.
"It violates their own policies," she said.
The school's website wasn't hacked and the image didn't appear anywhere on a district website but could be found briefly using a Google search, Baumstark said.
Baumstark declined it say if the students identified were from Gentry Middle School, but said there is more than one student involved.
