A Bunceton man was killed Saturday morning when the vehicle he was driving was struck on a state highway in southeast Cooper County, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At about 10 a.m. Saturday, Michael D. Kendrick, 42, was driving north on Route U, about a half mile from Walnut Drive, in a 1988 Jeep Cherokee when a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Haven T. Pennington, 19, of Prairie Home, crossed the center line and struck the Jeep head-on.

Kendrick was declared dead at the scene by Cooper County Coroner James Hurt. Three passengers, Melissa L. Kendrick, 40, and two boys, aged 14 and 7, were also injured and transported to University of Missouri Hospital for treatment.

Pennington was alone in her car and she suffered serious injuries, the patrol reported. She was taken by air ambulance to MU Hospital.
