The Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office has fired two deputies for inappropriate social media posts.
Jail employee Dillion Davenport and Lt. Kevin Moore were fired Monday, according to a press release. Sheriff Tony Wheatley did not describe the content of the posts, but wrote that he found them offensive and will not tolerate such behavior.
“I would like to take this time to apologize for the actions of these employees and to the families that it has affected,” Wheatley stated in the release. “From what I have come to understand is that this post started as a joke between employees and a mother of one of the employees.
“This so called joke was in very poor taste and is not a joking matter.”
Wheatley continued the posts tarnished the reputation of the department and he will evaluate policy and procedure and plans to make changes.
