A Verizon worker who used a boom lift to rescue a cat stuck atop a telephone pole has been suspended for 15 days.

The man, Maurice German, was working in a Philadelphia-area neighborhood when a woman asked him to rescue the cat, named Momma.

Daily Mail reports the cat had been atop the pole for about 12 hours.

When German's bosses found out, he was suspended for 15 days. Co-workers have started a GoFundMe account to raise the estimated $4,000 in wages he'll lose as a result of the suspension.

'We take no joy in this job action," Verizon said in a written statement provided to KYW-TV in Philadelphia. "However, we’re committed and responsible for keeping our employees and customers safe while working in a particular area. Unfortunately, while this employee’s goal was admirable, he potentially put his life and those around him in jeopardy."
