Two members of Boonville’s Parks and Recreation board have stepped down, leaving vacancies to be filled.

Jimmy Barbarotta left the board after his term ended, and Kevin Griffy resigned due to overcommitment. Both men served as general members for the board.

The citizen board serves as an advisory function to the city’s parks and recreation department. Board members review budgets, provide strategic planning and make decisions about parks, pools and sports fields. The board meets at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall on the third Tuesday of every month.

To qualify for Boonville boards or commissions, citizens must live within the city limits. Applicants can nominate themselves or current board members can put their names forward. All citizens and council members are appointed by the mayor and approved by the city council.

“(Applicants) should feel passionate about our Parks and Recreation department, and about helping our community,” said Kate Fjell, assistant to the city administrator.
