The 46th Annual Boonville Lions Club Auction will take place on Tuesday, March 6 and Wednesday, March 7 from 6 PM to 10 PM at W-K Ford of Boonville and live on 1370 AM KRWT Radio.
The proceeds from the annual auction fund the numerous projects and community initiatives of the Lions Club thus the organization hopes to raise as much as possible from the two-night event.
“The big thing with the Lions Club is sight, so that’s the focus of our mission,” explained auction organizer and 34-year member Pete Rodman, “We do lots of other stuff but sight is our major thing.”
The Lions Club purchases eyeglasses, pays for eye exams in addition to donations toward other programs at both the national and local level. The organization, through auction proceeds, also contribute scholarships awarded to local high school students and experiences for students including the Missouri Boys and Girls State programs. The Lions Club additionally sponsors Cub Scout Troop 70 amongst its extensive and diverse community involvement with local youth.
“There is a lot of community involvement and people do see what we do,” continued Rodman, “For lack of a better term, you could call it (the auction) a tradition.”
Rodman remembers the event taking place at LSE Middle School as one of his first auction experiences as a Lions Club member.
The 2017 auction featured online live streaming in addition to the live and radio auction formats but the 2018 event may not. Regardless, the auction will be broadcast via community access television on both nights.
A number of auctioneers from across the community will operate the auction including Tim Derendinger and Randy Reynolds, among others.
