BOONVILLE – Veterans and their families and guests, from Boonville and surrounding areas of Cooper and Howard counties, should mark their calendars for this special event.

Plans are being made by the Hannah Cole Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and Boonville High School administration, staff and students. We look forward to seeing you there!

Veterans and their guests will be served a complimentary breakfast beginning at 8 a.m. in the Boonville High School Commons. Please park in the south parking lot and enter through the south entrance. Please call the school office to make reservations for the breakfast at 660-882-7426 by Friday, November 4. When using the automated phone system, dial "1" to speak to a secretary; if no answer, please leave a message.

The Veterans' Day program will begin in the BHS Windsor Gymnasium at 9 a.m. Capt. Richard Arnold, USN (Ret.), who is a Boonville High School 1971 graduate, will be our speaker. Capt. Arnold went on to the United States Naval Academy and had a successful military career in the U.S. Navy. He has chosen as his topic, "The Oath," relating to the oath he, and all, military personnel commit to and how that oath has an effect on their lives during and after their military service. We can also hope to learn about his memories of growing up in Boonville and how "Digger" earned this nickname.

The NSDAR Hannah Cole Chapter and Cole's Fort CAR. (Children of the American Revolution) will take part in a memorial ceremony entitled the "Empty Table" which is dedicated to all who serve in the defense of the United States of America. Certificates honoring the veterans and "Old Glory" pins will also be presented.

The Boonville Silver Pirate band and the BHS Chamber Choir will provide patriotic and stirring music to the enhance the program. Members of the BHS Student Council will present the "Wall of Heroes" to be displayed during the week of November 10-16. If you would like to honor a  veteran, local individual or BHS graduate currently in the military, bring a copy of their photo and information about their service to the Boonville High School office by today, so it can be added to the "Wall of Heroes."

A personal invitation is not necessary to attend the breakfast and/or the program; just call the school to make a reservation. If you are a veteran and would like to receive a personal invitation, please call the school office at 882-7426 (Dial "1 ") to place your name on the Veterans' Day mailing list.
