The atmosphere was just right for an artist reception for area artist Nora Othic at the Hain House on Wednesday.

Othic is showcasing much of her artwork that she said is inspired by the likes of Thomas Hart Benton.

The road to showcasing her art in Boonville began with a call from local artist Pat Hanna who asked Othic to be the featured artist this year for the Missouri River Festival of the Arts.

“I like the setting we are in. It’s like an old house. It is nice arrangement,” Othic said.

Othic explained her art as Neo-Regional. But, she is also fully aware of the modernist.

“It put everything together,” she added.

Inspiration for Othic comes from the visualness of the scene, which is shown by each of her 37 pieces of art that are on display.

Othic has been an artist since going to college at MU in 1988.

Othic used to showcase her art around the United States, but now she stays more regionally located with an art gallery in St. Louis, Columbia and Manhattan Kans.

Othic is looking forward to seeing people during the festival.

“I just like the fact that town’s all over Missouri do things like this.
