For the first time in two years the City of Boonville will have a fireworks display at Kemper Park on the Fourth of July.
After money was raised by several organizations to have fireworks, the City matched those funds to be able to have a nice display for the community. The fireworks will be shot off by members of Fraternal Order of Eagles, who spent many hours receiving training to be able to do this endeavor.
Fundraising began last year when the community demanded a fireworks display. In years past, the fireworks had been shot off and funded by a now defunct organization. In its absence, an effort was created to have fireworks in a different matter, which consisted of finding a new organization to be able to handle the responsibility. This is when the Eagles stepped up. By winter, a couple of members were completing the training.
Eagles member Paul Linhart thought it would be good for the Eagles to join the effort, especially in having official firework shooter personnel on hand.
“We sent members to firework safety classes so they can be certified to shoot them off,” Linhart said during an earlier interview.
According to the Missouri Department of Public Safety, an important aspect of the fireworks enforcement program is the testing and licensing of fireworks display operators and pyrotechnic operators.
Many community organizations came to the plate to donate funds to the cause. One such organization was the Boonville Area Chamber of Commerce, who donated hundreds of dollars. Not only did these organizations want this year to be lit up with a colorful display, but they are also making sure all future Independence Day celebrations are full of big lights and booms.
While this year is a restart of an old tradition, the Boonville City Council is asking the public for input on future events. Such input will be decided on later, such as offering food and beverages and possibly bringing back a family-fun-day.
The fireworks display will be held on the evening of July 4.
