Formal charges have been brought against three David Barton teachers following their arrest on Friday morning. The only charges facing fifth grade teacher Bev Crawford, fourth grade teacher Nancy Williamson and third grade teacher Kelly Davis, are helping raise money for the Central Missouri Cancer Memorial Park, a school sanctioned fundraiser.
While the arrests were made in good-fun, students in the top three classes got to enjoy a recess while their teachers faced a short period of incarceration.
For two years, the students have been vying to raise the most funds so they can enjoy a recess while their teacher has a time-out. This year, students at David Barton raised $533.03 for the CMCMP. Topping the list was Mrs. Carwford’s fifth grade class, which raised $175.
According to the school, the student council has sponsored this event around 10 years. It has been within the last two years that teachers faced arrest.
The money was collected during the week of April 4-8.
Every year the money is donated to Relay for Life, but this year it was donated to help fund the Cancer Park.
At the end, each teacher was released to go back to their classroom.
For the students, they were really looking forward to the recess.
