The Boonville Class of 1974 Football Team was recently enshrined in the 2022 Class of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. On Saturday during halftime of the Boonville boys varsity game versus Smith-Cotton, four members of the ‘74 football team along with head coach Gene Reagan presented Boonville Athletic Director Gary Baker with a plaque that was presented to the team during the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame Banquet in Columbia. The Pirates football team captured the state title with a perfect record of 11-0 by beating Washington 34-14 on a snow-covered field in Rolla. The Pirates averaged 49.6 points a game while allowing only 10.3 points, giving them an average margin of victory of 36.3 points. The offense scored 50 or more points six times, while the defense tossed a pair of shutouts and limited opponents to less than 10 points on five other occasions. A total of 16 school records were set that season. Seven seniors and two juniors were selected as first team all-conference, and six were chosen as all-state. (Photo by Chris Bowie)
