Pilot Grove girls basketball coach Grant Fricke when Emma Sleeper goes so does the Lady Tigers after Wednesday night’s 56-25 win over Bunceton with Prairie Home in the Lady Tiger Classic. Of course Fricke knows its takes every player on the floor and the players on the bench to make it happen for Pilot Grove but having Sleeper has made the difference in a 3-0 start by the Lady Tigers.
The Boonville boys freshmen basketball team held on to beat the Hannibal Pirates 38-33 in the consolation semifinals of the Mexico Tournament Wednesday night in Mexico. The Pirates, 1-2 on the season, led Hannibal 13-12 after one, 21-12 at the half and 27-18 after three quarters of play but then had to hold on in the final period as Hannibal rallied back with a 15-11 advantage to cut the lead to five.
It didn’t come as a surprise that the game between the Pilot Grove and Prairie Home boys basketball teams came down to the wire Tuesday night in the Pilot Grove Tiger Classic. After all, the Tigers and Panthers have played their fair share of close games back in the days when both teams competed in the Cooper County Athletic Association Conference.
The LSE Pirates wrestling team continues to show progress after competing in two meets on Friday and Saturday in Higginsville and Moberly, respectively, and then again on Monday at Eldon. In the match last Friday at Higginsville against Lexington, Richmond and Odessa, Karina Armstrong and Carlie Kusgen both went unbeaten in two matches.

After suffering its first loss of the season in almost seven months Wednesday night in the semifinal round of the Tri- County Conference Tournament, the Boonville Lady Pirates basketball team responded with a big thunder in overtime Friday night in the third place game by beating Blair Oaks 56-49.
Boonville Pirates basketball coach Mark Anderson called Thursday night’s 73-58 loss to the California Pintos in the semifinal round of the Tri-County Conference Tournament as a wake-up call. While the loss dropped Boonville to 1-1 on the season, Anderson said he felt like the team had a good first quarter but then missed a couple of layups that they should have finished.
