The Boonville girls’ soccer team continued its trend of playing teams close for a half Thursday night on the road against the Moberly Spartans. Although the Lady Pirates fell to Moberly 5-0 on the pitch, head coach Alec Adair said Thursday’s match was a good balance of offense and defense.
With the regular season winding down, the New Franklin boys and girls track teams followed up the CAC Track Meet on Wednesday by competing in the Glasgow Relays just two days later. The Bulldogs will hold two more warm up meets on May 2 at Sweet Springs and May 4 at Glasgow before competing in the Class 1 District 2 Track Meet on Saturday, May 7 at Glasgow High School.
The Boonville Pirates C Baseball Team had another tough opponent on Friday while traveling to Columbia to face the Hickman Kewpies in a single contest. While the Pirates fell to the Kewpies 10-0, head coach Jalen Poindexter said it was also the second straight game where Boonville has lost by a no hit shutout.
New Franklin’s Drake Clark was named high point medalist during the CAC Track Meet Wednesday at Glasgow after finishing first in the 200 meter dash and second in the 100, 400 and long jump to lead the Bulldogs.
New Franklin senior Abby Maupin, a three-sport athlete for the Lady Bulldogs, recently signed a softball letter of intent with Central Methodist University in Fayette. As a four-year starter while playing shortstop, New Franklin softball coach Ross Dowell said Maupin was an outstanding lead off hitter and her getting on base usually led to runs for the Lady Bulldogs.

Boonville sophomore Rhodes Leonard accomplished a feat that stood for more than 65 years Tuesday during the Smith-Cotton Tiger Invitational in Sedalia. While teetering around 2:00 in the 800 meter run for most of the season, Leonard finally hit that mark on Tuesday by placing first in a time of 2:00.24.
Boonville freshman golfer Zack Espey earned all-conference honors Tuesday during the Tri-County Conference Tournament at Eldon Country Club by placing 10th overall with a score of 89. As for the Boonville Pirates golf team, they weren’t so fortunate while finishing seventh out of eight teams with a score of 475.
The Boonville Pirates baseball team knew they would have to play near perfect baseball to knock off Class 6 Rock Bridge Monday night in Columbia. After losing to the Bruins just 16 days earlier in the Smith-Cotton Tournament 7-3, the game plan this time around was to jump on Rock Bridge early and let the pitching and defense do their job.
The Boonville Pirates tennis team had what head coach Ryan Brimer deemed a “tough loss” Wednesday during Senior-Parent Night against the Higginsville Huskers. While losing the match 8-1 to drop to 3-7 on the season, Brimer said he felt like there was a little bit of fatigue involved.
