Boonville Lady Pirates softball coach Christie Zoeller used two words to describe the teams play Friday and Saturday in the Warrensburg Tournament: heart and determination. Although the Lady Pirates got off to a rough start with a 7-2 loss to Warrensburg on Friday, they more than made up for it on Saturday with two wins over Teresa’s Academy 12-4 and Versailles 6-5 in extra innings to finish third overall in the tournament.
The Boonville boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams found out just how tough the course was Thursday during the Marshall Invitational. While facing several larger teams in addition to a number of good smaller programs, Boonville still managed to record two top 15 finishes on the boy’s side and a 16th place finish for the Lady Pirates.
One day after cruising at home against School of the Osage for a 16-0 victory, the Boonville Lady Pirates softball team found itself in a battle Wednesday night on the road against Sedalia Smity-Cotton.
Two conference heavyweights decided the game on the field Tuesday night at Gene Reagan Field at Boonville High School. Matching the Boonville Pirates versus the Eldon Mustangs in a battle of two conference rivals, the Pirates prevailed on the gridiron in an offensive shootout 52-28.
The Boonville Lady Pirates golf team did what they had to do Tuesday night in a triangular against California and Sedalia Sacred Heart at Hail Ridge Golf Course. Although the final total was way short of the Lady Pirates season best, the hometown team still picked up the sweep by besting the California Pintos by 33 strokes 198-231.
The Boonville boys’ and girls’ high school and middle school cross-country teams had major success Wednesday while competing in the Missouri Military Academy 5,000 and 3,200 meter run in Mexico. For the Boonville girls’ varsity cross-country team, they had all seven members place in the meet with sophomore Reagan Wilson winning the race in a time of 24:51.67.
Playing at home has not been kind to the Boonville Pirates soccer team. After winning its season opener on the road against the Clinton Cardinals back on August 30, the Pirates have now dropped their last two games at home by a combined score of 13-0.
Boonville volleyball coach Brittney Lowe used the term “team” to describe the Lady Pirates three-set win Tuesday night on the road against the Centralia Panthers 25-13, 25-18 and 27-25. Although the Lady Pirates still have some catching up to do after dropping their first-two games of the season, Lowe said she was proud with how the girls played against Centralia.
Nothing like getting a win to start conference play. Those were the words from Pilot Grove softball coach George Monk on Tuesday night’s thrilling 8-7 win over Community R-6.
