The Boonville Lady Pirates JV volleyball team didn’t go down without a fight over the weekend while competing in the Hickman JV Tournament. After finishing pool play at 0-3 with losses to Capital City (14-25, 11-25), Father Tolton (11-25 and 17-25) and Rock Bridge (15-25, 12-25), the Lady Pirates came back to knock off Warrensburg in two straight sets (25-8, 25-22) in bracket play to face Columbia Independent in the consolation match.

The Pilot Grove Lady Tigers softball team did exactly what they wanted to do for 4 ½ innings Friday night against Jamestown in the championship game in the Class 1 District 5 Tournament at Leeton. After knocking off top-seeded Leeton 9-7 on Thursday with 13 hits-seven of which went for extra bases-the Lady Tigers wanted to get out to a fast start again on Friday against the Lady Eagles.

The New Franklin boys middle school basketball team captured the consolation trophy in the Prairie Home Junior High Tournament by beating Pilot Grove 40-17. The Bulldogs, 2-1 on the season, jumped out to a 17-8 lead at the half against Pilot Grove and then outscored the Tigers 23-9 in the second half for the win.

The Boonville Lady Pirates volleyball team couldn’t have predicted a better outcome Thursday night on the road against Sedalia Smith-Cotton. In a back and forth match against the Lady Tigers, Boonville recorded its first five-set victory of the season and improved to 7-12-2 overall by beating Smith-Cotton 25-21, 25-15, 11-25, 19-25 and 16-14.

The New Franklin girls softball team moved one step closer to the championship in the Class 1 District 6 Tournament after beating the Sturgeon Bulldogs 12-0 in five innings Wednesday night in Glasgow.
