Pilot Grove boys’ basketball coach Casey Opfer likes what he see so far with the Tigers in 2022-23. With three starters and five returning letterwinners back for the upcoming season, Opfer said he feels like this team can compete most nights and is excited for the challenge of competing in this conference.
The Pilot Grove girls basketball team couldn’t have finished any better in 2021-22. While finishing the season at 19-8 overall and 6-4 in the Central Activities Conference, the Lady Tigers also captured the district title under head coach Grant Fricke.
The BPH girls’ basketball team won its season opener against Slater Friday night in the season opener 49-40. BPH, 1-0 on the season, outscored Slater in three out of the four quarters and led 12-7 after one, 31-17 at the half and 45-24 after three quarters.
The New Franklin boys and girls basketball teams couldn’t have had a better season opener on Saturday by beating the La Plata Bulldogs 7922 and 47-42, respectively. For the New Franklin boys, they jumped out to a 47-17 halftime lead and then outscored La Plata 32-5 in the second half for the win.

The Boonville Pirates soccer team may have surprised even themselves during the 2022 season by winning six games, which is a major improvement from the 2021 season. Although the Pirates fell short in the semifinal round of the district tournament against top-seeded Marshall 4-0, head coach Alec Adair said it was another building block to put on to the culture the team is trying to create in the program.

Boonville boys’ basketball coach Mark Anderson used the word “cautiously optimistic” when referring to the 2022-23 Pirates basketball team. With three returning starters and eight returning letterwinners stepping out on the court this season for the Pirates, you can see why Anderson is anxious to get the season started but also optimistic about what the 202223 season has in-store for his team.
For the first time in 11 years, the Boonville Lady Pirates basketball team will begin the season with a new coach roaming the sidelines for the 2022-23 season. After watching former head coach Jaryt Hunziker do his magic while leading Boonville to two Final Fours-capturing the state title in 20221-the Lady Pirates will have new coach leading the charge in Jared Runyon.
