Pilot Grove boys lose nailbiter against Orioles, 60-59 The Pilot Grove Lady Tigers basketball team picked up where they left off last season Tuesday night in the season opener at home against Concordia. After recording double digit wins last year, the Lady Tigers outscored Concordia in all four quarters for a 6641 victory.
The New Franklin boys basketball team suffered its first loss of the season in overtime Wednesday night in the semifinal round of the Glasgow Invitational Tournament by losing to top-seeded Westran 63-59.
The LSE girls’ eighth grade basketball team outscored Fulton 11-1 in the second quarter and never looked back, beating the Lady Hornets 35-28 Wednesday night in the Centralia Tournament. The LSE boys eighth grade basketball team fell in a tight game against Fulton 42-36.
LSE Pirates wrestling coach Christian Stock expected the unexpected from his wrestlers after coming off Thanksgiving break Tuesday night on the road at the Osage quad. As it turned out, Stock may have been surprised as 10 LSE wrestlers finished the night undefeated in two matches.
The LSE boys seventh grade basketball team raised its season record to 5-0 by beating St. Joseph of Salisbury 51-26 Tuesday night in Boonville.
Boonville Pirates football coach Greg Hough said football brought the team together between the white lines during the 2022 season. While the Pirates had their season come to an end last Saturday in a Class 3 quarterfinal game against Reeds Springs, losing 21-0, Boonville still managed to finish the season at 8-5 overall and 4-3 in the Tri-County Conference.
New Franklin sophomore pitcher Brynn Belstle joined an elite group this past season after being selected second-team all-state by the Missouri Softball Coaches Association. While joining players from all across the state, Belstle was also just one of two sophomores named second-team all-state by the coaches.
Boonville senior Abby Pulliam said she chose Lincoln University in Jefferson City for two reasons last week while signing a softball letter of intent in the high school commons in front of family and friends. While playing the last four years on the Boonville Lady Pirates softball team, mostly as a pitcher, Pulliam said she wanted to go to Lincoln University because of their education program as well as the coaching staff.
Boonville senior Caidyn Hazel has endured more in a short period of time than any player for the Pirates baseball team when it comes to adversity. After biding his time, the first-two years as a player on the junior varsity team, Hazel finally got his shot to show what he was really made of his junior year as a starter under head coach Greg Hough.
