As the No. 3 seed going into the Class 1 District 2 Tournament Friday and Saturday at North Point High School in Wentzville, Boonville freshman Carlie Kusgen knew she had a good chance to move on to the state tournament on February 22-23 at Mizzou Arena in Columbia.
Boonville seniors Colby Caton, Zoey Lang, Connor Acton and Tyson Ellison have all made their mark at one time or another throughout their careers when it comes to playing baseball, golf and football. However, in a mass signing ceremony Friday at the BHS Commons, the four student-athletes signed with their respective schools to further their education and play the sports they love for the next-four years.

Pirates drop to 7-16 on the season with three games left to play Boonville Pirates basketball coach Mark Anderson knows it sounds like a broken record when he says his team had a chance to win the game Saturday against Sedalia Smith-Cotton at the Windsor gymnasium. Time after time this season, the Pirates have played well but then have one bad stretch which determines the outcome of the game.
New Franklin boys basketball coach Jim Schlotzhauer said after Friday’s 49-41 win over the Sturgeon Bulldogs that it may not have been the prettiest win but at this time of the year a win is a win. Although the Bulldogs wound up beating Sturgeon by eight on Homecoming, the win was still impressive enough that New Franklin improved its record for the season to 22-2 overall and 8-0 in the Central Activities Conference.
