The annual Boonville Wood Bat Tournament had a little bit of everything Saturday at Twillman Field in Harley Park. Along with a full day of baseball with four teams in three different classes, the tournament was also for a good cause to help raise money for the American Cancer Society.
The Boonville Pirates C Baseball Team picked up two more wins Friday night at the Boonville High School Baseball Field by beating the Rolla Bulldogs in a doubleheader 11-7 and 12-9. The Pirates, 10-4 on the season, finished the two-game set with 26 hits and only one error.
Pilot Grove baseball coach Joe Vossler said the Tigers were nearly perfect Friday night while beating the Eugene Eagles 4-0. The Tigers, 10-4 after the win, scored all four runs in just two innings after pushing across two in the first and two again in the fourth.
The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team took what head coach Alec Adair said was a “tough loss” on the road Thursday night against the Clinton Cardinals 5-0. While losing to the Cardinals for the second time this season, Adair said of all the team they have played, Clinton is right up there with the most speed.
The Boonville Pirates golf team finished third out of four teams on Thursday while competing in a quad at Old Hawthorne Country Club in Columbia. California captured first in the meet with a team score of 323, followed by Centralia at 361, Boonville at 366 and Eugene at 424.
The Boonville boys and girls track teams capped off a long week with its third track meet in five days by competing in the Ron Whittaker Bulldog Classic in Mexico. With all six schools from the NCMC competing in the meet along with Centralia, Father Tolton, Montgomery County and South Callaway, Boonville girls track coach Melissa Baker said despite a long week for the athletes the girls still had some great finishes in races and a couple of PRs.
