The New Franklin boys’ basketball team couldn’t have asked for much more last year while finishing 24-4 overall and 9-1 in the CAC under head coach Jim Schlotzhauer.Although the Bulldogs settled for a tie with Cairo for the conference crown and fell to Salisbury, the eventual state champion in Class 2 in the semifinal round of the district tournament, the 2022-23 season was still considered a success.Fast forward to this season with four starters returning for New Franklin and 19 players out for the 2023-24 season.Schlotzhauer said the Bulldogs have a team that returns a lot of game experience and talent.
After finishing 20-9 overall and 6-4 in the CAC in 2022-23, the New Franklin girls’ basketball team looks to make another run in the postseason under first-year coach Parker Gross. With 10 players suited out for the 2023-24 season with one returning starter and five returning letterwinners, Gross said the Lady Bulldogs will have a very young group overall and have to develop a new identity at both ends of the court.“We’ll have one returning starter from last year’s group and no seniors on the roster this year, so this year’s team will be young,” Gross said.
