Marshall signs baseball letter of intent with Butler Community College

After signing a baseball letter of intent last week at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas, New Franklin senior Jake Marshall said he signed with the Grizzlies because of the connection he felt with Coach Reese and the school as a whole.With family, friends and coaches in attendance for the signing, Marshall signed on the dotted line to fulfill his dream of playing baseball at the next level.Marshall said Coach Reese’s philosophy, coaching style, approach to the game of baseball resonated with him and his playing style.

Troost, Pickens named to Class All-State Team

While putting on the jersey for the final time Monday in the weight room at Boonville High School, seniors Dakota Troost and Jake Pickens will remember this day for the rest of their lives after receiving the highest honor, other than All-American, as one of the best players in the state in 2023.While earning second team all-state as a receiver for the Pirates, Troost will go down as one of the best all-time in Boonville High School history while finishing with over 3,333 all-purpose yards.

New Franklin boys and girls remain unbeaten in CAC

The New Franklin boys’ and girls’ basketball teams remained unbeaten in the CAC Tuesday night by defeating the Slater Wildcats on the road 78-45 and 60-43, respectively.The Lady Bulldogs, 5-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play, opened the first half with a 28-18 lead against Slater and then outscored the Wildcats 32-25 in the second half for the win.New Franklin coach Parker Gross said Lily (Chitwood) and Lydia (Burnett) shot the ball well tonight from the outside and led the team in scoring with 25 and 15, respectively.

LSE 8th boys beat Versailles, 7th grade falls for the second time this season

Landon Conz scored a game-high 13 points and teammate Tallin Kempf chipped in 11 as the LSE boys’ eighth grade basketball team defeated Versailles 43-26 Tuesday night in Versailles.The Pirates, improving to 8-5 on the season, played Versailles to an 8-8 tie after one but outscored the Tigers 10-=8 in the second period to lead 18-16 at the half.

LSE 8th girls beat Versailles 33-31 for third win of the season

The LSE girls’ eighth grade basketball team picked up its third win of the season Tuesday night in Boonville by beating the Versailles Lady Tigers 33-31.The Lady Pirates, 3-10 on the season, trailed Versailles 16-15 at the half before rallying back with a 18-15 advantage in the second half for the win.LSE coach Amanda Rhorer said the girls came out and started scoring early.

Pirate frosh lead Marshall from start to finish for 56-24 win

Boonville boys’ freshmen basketball coach Brock Hills said Monday night’s 56-24 win over the Marshall Owls was the perfect way to get back in the win column.After finishing 1-2 over the weekend in the Mexico Freshmen Tournament, the Pirates had the perfect bounce back game against Mexico while leading from start to finish to improve to 3-2 on the season.“Great way to get back in Win column with a big win at home,” Hill said.
