Boonville Pirates wrestling coach Justin Hahn knew that to win the match Monday night on Senior Night against Southern Boone that Boonville had to dominate in the upper weight classes.With the Pirates all first- or second-year wrestlers in the lower weight classes, Hahn said he knew his team would take its lumps but would have a chance for a little “payback” in the heavier weight classes.As it turned out, Hahn was right as Boonville recorded wins in five out of the seven weight classes from the 132-pound weight class on for a 45-27 victory.The win improved Boonville’s record to 5-4 on the season.As for the Boonville Lady Pirates wrestling team, they fell to a good Southern Boone team 47-6.The loss dropped the Boonville girls’ wrestling team to 6-3 on the season.“Southern Boone had good wrestlers in the lower weights and wound-up beating all of our first- or second-year wrestlers,” Hahn said.
The Pilot Grove boys’ basketball team outscored Santa Fe 26-12 in the first period and never looked back while beating the Chiefs Monday night in Alma 77-58.As for the Pilot Grove girls, they fell in a close game against a good Santa Fe team 44-40.The Tigers, 8-6 on the season, had their way for three quarters against Santa Fe while leading 26-12 after one, 46-22 at the half and 71-33 after three.
Boonville Pirates basketball coach Mark Anderson saw more good than bad during Tuesday night’s game against the Centralia Panthers.After struggling early on in January to finish games, Anderson witnessed another game in which the Pirates had a big lead only to allow Centralia to rally back in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to single digits.Except this time, Boonville found a way to win in the closing minutes of the game against Panthers while hitting 2 of 4 free throws in the final 56 seconds for a 65-57 victory.While improving to 9-7 overall and winners of its last-two games, Anderson said after the game that it wasn’t pretty, but the boys found a way to win.
The Boonville Lady Pirates basketball team will look back on the little things that led to Tuesday night’s 60-49 loss against the Centralia Lady Panthers at the Windsor Gymnasium.
One day after hosting a match against Southern Boone on Senior Night, the Boonville Pirates and Lady Pirates wrestling teams were back on the mat Tuesday in a triangular against Moberly and Eldon.While the Lady Pirates finished 2-0 with 21-12 win over Eldon and a 24-12 triumph over Moberly, the Pirates closed out the night with a split by beating Eldon 72-6 and losing to Moberly 52-24.The Lady Pirates are currently 8-3 on the season while the Pirates are currently 6-6.Boonville wrestling coach Justin Hahn said overall he thought we wrestled very well.
