Pirate golfers look to move up in TCC this season

The Boonville Pirates golf team couldn’t have predicted the outcome of the 2023 season any better after finishing 13-5 overall and 2-4 in the TCC.With three underclassmen making up the varsity lineup for the Pirates, head coach Rob VanderLinden says he has a positive outlook on the 2024 season.“I feel with the team and experience we have we should make up a big jump in our conference results,” VanderLinden said.

BPH looks to continue success in baseball this spring

After completing its most successful season in BPH basketball history, the Panthers/Dragons will try to copy that in baseball this spring under head coach Dustin Ray.With 14 players suited out for the 2024 season, seven of which are returning starters and eight letterwinners, BPH baseball coach Dustin Ray said he expects the team to have good pitching and be able to produce runs for the upcoming season.

Troost ready to make his mark at Central Methodist University

Boonville senior three-sport athlete Dakota Troost knew right away that he wanted to play football for Central Methodist University in Fayette.Although Troost admits that Division I or Division II is not out of the future for football, Troost said one of the reasons he chose CMU was because it was close to home and a place that he is very familiar with.Of course, the Eagles have also noticed Troost throughout his storied career as a member of the Boonville Pirates football team.CMU wide receivers coach Keith Willis-Auger said Dakota is a local kid and somebody the Eagles wanted to build homegrown and get guys around the area.

Brandes, Morris named MVPs in CCAA Conference

BPH senior Layne Brandes and Calvary Lutheran senior Sydney Morris were recently selected to the Cooper County Activities Association All-Conference Team for the 2023-24 season.The BPH boys closed out the season at 23-7 overall and 4-0 in the CCAA while Calvary Lutheran girls finished the 2023-24 campaign at 17-9 overall and 1-3 in league play.Although the BPH boys fell to Green City in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament, the Dragons/Panthers return three starters next season under head coach Trever Huth.Joining Brandes on the all-conference team for BPH are Jackson Pitts, Wyatt Case and Cooper Brown.
