The Boonville Pirates baseball team had everything imaginable happen throughout the course of the 2023 season.Aside from finishing the regular season at the .500 mark at 12-12, the Pirates also closed out the Tri-County Conference season at 4-3 under head coach Fred Smith.
The Boonville Pirates and Lady Pirates basketball teams finished the 2023-24 season with an identical record for the second year in a row. After struggling last year at 8-19 overall, the Pirates and Lady Pirates both made an 11-game improvement this season while finishing with one conference title (boys) and one district championship (girls).Although the Lady Pirates advanced further into the postseason by playing in a sectional game against the Owensville Lady Dutchmen, the Boonville boys captured their first conference title since 2000 by finishing with a perfect record of 6-0.For that, the Boonville boys and girls were recently rewarded with three members each named to the Tri-County All-Conference Team for the 2023-24 season.
If Boonville girls’ soccer coach Alec Adair had to describe the 2024 version of the Lady Pirates this season, it would be a team with a lot of unfamiliar faces with a few young players and a few experienced players from last year. While the younger players picked up valuable experience last year under Adair, he said the coaching staff is excited to have so many new players out and build on this new edition of the team.
The Boonville Lady Pirates track team will head into the 2024 season with some unfinished business after placing fifth out of eight teams in the Tri-County Conference last year.Although the Lady Pirates were only four points short of tying for fourth in the TCC, head coach Melissa Baker said the key to the season this year is to show up every day ready to work hard with a positive mindset and look to get better every day and every performance.
As the Boonville Pirates track team prepares for the 2024 season opener on Monday, March 18 in the UMC Indoor Track Meet in Warrensburg, head coach Christian Stock said overall he wants the Pirates to be competitive.
