Boonville junior golfer Zack Espey did his part Tuesday during the Tri-County Conference Tournament at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton.With the team finishing fifth out of seven teams, Espey was cruising right along while finishing in a five-way tie for second with a 1-under par 71 for 18 holes.
For Boonville’s Effie Morris, Alison Eichelberger and Rhodes Leonard, they will go down as conference champions after placing first in their respective events Tuesday during the Tri-County Conference Track Meet at Blair Oaks.Although the Boonville boys’ and girls’ track teams both finished fifth out of seven teams in the TCC, they did have a total of 10 all-conference performances on Tuesday.In the final-team standings for the girls, Eldon captured first with 195 points while Osage finished second with 140 points, Blair Oaks third with 102.50 points, Hallsville fourth with 95 points, Boonville fifth with 83 points, Southern Boone sixth with 60.50 points and California seventh with 52 points.Eldon also finished first for the boys with 183 points while Southern Boone placed second with 149 points, Osage third with 134 points, Blair Oaks fourth with 116 points, Boonville fifth with 57 points, California sixth with 47 points and Hallsville seventh with 39 points.Boonville girls’ track coach Melissa Baker said the girls showed up ready to compete at conference.
The Boonville Lady Pirates soccer team had one for the ages Tuesday night on the road against the Smithton Tigers.While playing in the mud at Smithton, the Lady Pirates battled for 80 minutes with no score before finding the back of the net at the 89-minute mark in overtime on an assist from Becca Shaw to Olivia Dilse for a 1-0 victory.Boonville soccer coach Alec Adair said overall it was a sloppy game, but a win is a win.
The LSE boys’ and girls’ middle school track teams competed against a field of 13 teams Tuesday at Harrisburg.While finishing with a total of six first-place finishes, the LSE boys also placed third overall while the Lady Pirates finished in fifth place.LSE track coach Erin Sommerer said there was a lot of tough competition and the athletes fought for every spot they finished.
