Pirates to face Hallsville in conference opener

It’s no secret that Friday night’s conference opener on the road against Hallsville is the biggest game to date for the Boonville Pirates football team.After starting the season 2-0 with wins over Clinton 27-14 and Marshall 47-0, the Pirates will face an Indians team that has struggled to find wins this season under first-year coach Paul Stevens while losing to Palmyra 42-40 in two overtimes in Week 1 and last week against Centralia 48-20.The Pirates are 3-3 against Hallsville since joining the Tri-County Conference in 2018.

Cooper leads Lady Pirate golfers to second place finish in triangular

Boonville junior Karagyn Cooper had a career night for the Lady Pirates in a three-team meet Tuesday night at Hail Ridge Golf Course in Boonville.While capturing meet medalist honors with a 2-over par 37, Cooper also finished the match with seven pars and two bogeys to lead Boonville.Of course, with only four golfers on the team this season the Lady Pirates took a backseat to California in the team standings 182-205.

Lady Bulldogs win in eight innings against Cairo, 2-1

The New Franklin Lady Bulldogs softball team broke a 1-1 tie with one run in the bottom half of the eighth to beat the Cairo Lady Bearcats 2-1 in CAC action Tuesday night in New Franklin.The Lady Bulldogs, improving to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the CAC, scored first in the game against Cairo with one run in the bottom half of the third only to have the Lady Bearcats rally back with one in the fifth to tie the game at 1-all.

Prairie Home falls at home against New Bloomfield, 15-1

The Prairie Home Panthers baseball team had an off night offensively while losing to the New Bloomfield Wildcats 15-1 in five innings.The Panthers, dropping to 2-2 on the season, scored their only run of the ball game in the bottom half of the fifth while New Bloomfield put up three runs in the first, one again in the second, three in the third, one in the fourth and seven in the fifth to win by the mercy rule.Brayden Carroll picked up the win on the mound for New Bloomfield while Carter Pethan took the loss for Prairie Home.

Lady Tigers struggle offensively in 14-1 loss to Community

The Pilot Grove Lady Tigers softball team and the Tigers baseball team had the same unfortunate result Tuesday night.While the Lady Tigers fell at home against Community R-6 14-1 in five innings, the Pilot Grove baseball team took it on the chin on the road against the Eugene Eagles 10-0 in five innings.The Lady Tigers, dropping to 1-4 on the season, scored their only run of the ball game in the bottom half of the third.
